UpBeat! Musical Theatre Troupe

CFCArts’ UpBeat! Theatre Troupe is a performance group for teen and young adult exceptional learners. UpBeat! produces multiple performances each year, including both plays and musicals. UpBeat! is open to actors with a variety of exceptionalities, including (but not limited to) autism, Down syndrome, and ADHD.
Through the UpBeat! program, actors will have the opportunity to attend virtual or in-person small and full group rehearsals. Individual rehearsals (one-on-one) will also be available upon request.
 

UpBeat! Presents Heroes!
A musical theater style revue of our favorite heroes of all time!

This season, UpBeat! is proud to present Heroes! This musical theater style revue will feature performers of all ages and abilities presenting stories of our favorite heroes of all time from classic Disney to Marvel! This mixed media showcase will offer all students a chance to shine through singing, dancing, and acting in short films and live performances!

Performances: Saturday, November 19 at 5pm AND Sunday, November 20 at 3pm in the CFCArts Black Box Theatre (250 SW Ivanhoe Blvd. Orlando, FL 32804)

UpBeat! Virtual Rehearsal Schedule (Short Film Option)

  • Time: Mondays 6:30-7:30pm
  • Season: August 8 – November 7
  • Location: ZOOM
  • Filming Time Frame: Students will be filmed individually by appointment via Zoom October 17-31.
  • Premiere: Short films will be premiered as part of the LIVE showcase on November 19-20.

  • Tuition for the UpBeat! program is $125 per production.
  • Returning performers will be automatically registered!
  • New performers will be contacted to schedule a brief video interview with a CFCArts staff member, so that we can get to know you! If the performer lives with a parent or guardian, both the performer and a parent or guardian should be present. If the performer lives independently, a parent or guardian does not need to be present.

UpBeat! Jr. Company

CFCArts’ UpBeat! Jr. Company is a musical theater class for youth ages 8-15 with Down syndrome, autism, and other varying abilities. This course is taught by a board certified music therapist providing integrated music interventions to support student development in addition to preparing a theatrical performance.

Meet the Team

William Tayek
William TayekUpBeat! Director

William is a Teaching Artist with Central Florida Community Arts and has been the Director of the UpBeat! Theater Troupe since 2020. William has acquired diverse experiences working with students of all ages and abilities through his work with the Advance Learning Academy, Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health, Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida, Orange County School System, and Universal Orlando Resort. William has a lifetime of experience performing as both an actor and vocalist in elite chamber ensembles and a cappella groups. Additionally, his passion for teaching has led to a variety of experiences ranging from guided historical tours to teaching STEAM workshops for under-resourced communities. He is most passionate about working with the UpBeat! Theater Troupe: a performance group for students with varying abilities which was awarded the 2020 International Hamilton Arts & Innovation Award. In addition to directing, William has written multiple scripts, composed music, edited videos, choreographed, and designed entire shows for multiple programs for students with varying abilities. William’s main passion in life is spending time with his wife, daughter, and close friends

Caroline Del Rey
Caroline Del ReyUpBeat! Jr. Director

Caroline is a board certified music therapist with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music therapy from Florida State University. She has been practicing music therapy for over six years. An Orlando native, she is excited to be back in her hometown practicing music therapy after working in Boston, MA for several years. Caroline has experience working with infants and toddlers in Early Intervention programs and with students of all ages in the public school system. In addition to her music therapy endeavors, Caroline has performed all over the east coast as a vocalist, both as a soloist and in choral and a cappella groups. Caroline could not be more thrilled to be part of the CFCArts music therapy team, SOAH, and the Academy.

Sara Breitfelder
Sara BreitfelderUpBeat! Stage Manager

Sara graduated from Valencia College in May 2019 with an A.S. degree in Entertainment Design and Technology, with a specialization in Live Show. While at Valencia, she started an internship with the CFCArts Theatre and worked closely with Donald Rupe. Since then, Sara has worked as a Stage Manager, Costumer, House Manager, and Lighting and Sound Board Operator, among other theatre duties within CFCArts – she’s done everything but acting and directing. Sara officially joined the CFCArts team in September 2019 as the Box Office Associate, joined the Development team in 2020, and as of December 2021, is the School of Arts and Health Administrator. In her free time, Sara enjoys sewing for herself, a skill her mom taught her while making flags for her high school’s Color and Winter Guards.
