From Silver Screen to Stage

Anticipation and excitement for this June’s production of Hooray for Hollywood is bubbling over! We continue to learn about the journey of our performers and their preparation to the stage through these behind-the-scenes emails focusing on the skills, dedication, and creativity it takes to get this show onstage. Hooray for Hollywood is a performance that curates the musical classics of Hollywood’s favorite films, TV shows, movie musicals, and more! In today’s highlight, we’ll be looking into the way our Symphony Orchestra plays a part in the program.

The art of sound is a power that unifies us all – and has for centuries. As far back in time as we can go, the talent of creating sonic rhythm has created bonds between musicians and communities. The orchestra acts as a living display of this. At Central Florida Community Arts, we have more than 300 non-auditioned musicians that exemplify by this almost every week. From bold trumpets or tubas to melodic saxophones and clarinets to soulful violins and cellos, the orchestra unites in a beautiful symphony with every performance they make their own.

Not tied to any one era or composer, the CFCArts Symphony Orchestra appreciates and explores a plethora of music from traditional global pieces to eccentric melodies from fan-favorite films. Much like on-screen visuals, the musical imagination is endless.

When paired with the Community Choir, that creativity expands even further. Almost every choir performance has a pit orchestra of select orchestra members to accompany the singers. Keith Walls, a member of both the Symphony Orchestra and the Community Choir, is a direct witness of this.

“Being a member of both ensembles has been a joy and a privilege,” Keith said. “It has allowed me to do things I never would have thought possible.”

Music – specifically CFCArts ensembles – grants people of all backgrounds the opportunity to be more expansive in their abilities than they could have ever imagined. The growth that takes place becomes second nature and everlasting.

Our June performance of Hooray for Hollywood puts this on display with rich symphonic instruments blended with vocalized harmonies to create a powerhouse show of a lifetime. It’s sure to be as grand as the auditorium that will host it – the world-renowned Steinmetz Hall at the Dr. Phillips Center. With soloists, dancers, and actors incorporated into the performance as well, Hooray for Hollywood is set to be a canvas of creativity for our members to paint together.
