With Support From

Hello and Welcome!

Today you have the opportunity to experience a moment of celebration: UpBeat! Theater Troupe’s 18th independent production, An UpBeat! Revue. It is my privilege to welcome you to this theater today to witness the talent, passion, and hard work that our performers and staff have put into not just one night, but months of production. Teaching artists, music therapists, video editors, and the Central Florida Community Arts staff have combined to highlight these actors in a safe and inclusive atmosphere. We are thankful for the passion of the program’s founder, Kaileigh Anne Tayek, the support from the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida, and The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation which allows this one-of-a-kind program to exist.

In line with CFCArts’ 15th anniversary, we decided to honor the accomplishments of our members and their impact on the program. Every performer has had a moment to be celebrated, whether it was in their first or 19th production with UpBeat! Starting this season, we have implemented milestone awards to give our members a goal to strive for and an achievement. You’ll see a few of these represented during the show!

This show is a showcase of the talent and potential in our members with varying abilities across 50 performers in our In Person, Virtual, and Jr. groups. Some of the performers’ favorite scenes from past shows have been revived and retooled to fit the character choices provided by our thespians themselves. This custom script is designed to meet each individual’s skill level and comfort while highlighting and challenging them.

In addition to putting on a production, we have continued our overarching purpose to elevate and advocate for our community with varying abilities. We have used creative drama exercises to encourage community and respectful treatment of each other as peers and castmates. We have reinforced these ideals weekly and are thrilled to have witnessed moments of direct improvement.

Thank you to all the parents and caregivers who help support our members day in and day out. Thank you for your presence and your support by being here in the audience today. Personally, it has been an exceptional life joy to work with these performers since 2019 and witness their achievements and growth both on and off the stage. I hope they captivate and inspire you just as they captivate the team and myself on a weekly basis. Please enjoy An UpBeat! Revue, and I hope that you will join us again for many years to come.

Sincerely,

William Tayek
UpBeat! Associate Artistic Director

A Note From the UpBeat! Jr. Directors

This season, the UpBeat! Jr. program continued to grow and develop. Ms. Christina moved into the role of co-director with Ms. Caroline and focused on expanding the group’s theatre vocabulary and skills. As part of this, UpBeat! Jr. learned about the theatre device of “tableaus” and will also be showcasing their most challenging blocking to date.

Ms. Caroline’s music therapy focused on having the Jr. members identify strengths through affirmations. This celebration of skills quickly became one of our favorite parts of rehearsal.

We would both like to extend a special thank you to the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida for the generous donation of their space for weekly rehearsals, our incredibly supportive parents who are there at every rehearsal, and all of you who have come to see the incredible work of these talented young performers.

Enjoy the Show!

15 Years of Building Community Through the Arts

Momentum is growing, and so is our impact! This season, we’re celebrating 15 years of Central Florida Community Arts bringing people together through the power of the arts. Now, we’re inviting you to be part of what’s next!

Help us open the door even wider, build stronger connections, and make the arts accessible to everyone who longs to belong. Our 15th Anniversary Fundraiser is running now through November 15, and there’s never been a better time to give. For every $2 you donate, our Board Treasurer and match donor, Tom Clements, will contribute $1 – multiplying the impact of your gift and fueling the future of CFCArts.
