Presented by The Harper Family Charitable Foundation

Hello and Welcome!

It is my privilege to welcome you into the UpBeat! community as we proudly present our 16th production, An UpBeat! Spooktacular! It is one of the greatest joys in my life to work with these exceptional performers as we create productions that showcase the tremendous talents and passions present in all people with varying abilities.

This multi-sectional program is truly unique in that it combines the talents and ideas of every performer. This season, UpBeat! Junior students have focused on identifying and expressing emotions through physical and facial expressions. Virtual performers have focused on becoming their characters through in-depth analysis and personal choices of character movements and inflections. In-person adult performers were given a chance to experience different artistic disciplines including handbells, dancing, singing, American Sign Language, and foley. We took input from each performer on their preferences and assigned them to scenes where they could shine. The thespians themselves then chose the characters you see on stage and screen tonight. A custom script was crafted to include their wishes and meet each individual’s skill level and comfortability while highlighting and challenging them.

While UpBeat! is a performing arts program, our overarching purpose is to elevate and advocate for our community with varying abilities by providing a platform to showcase their incredible talents and potential. An UpBeat! Spooktacular!  is a culmination of months of work featuring 45 performers of all ages, the UpBeat! team that includes teaching artists, music therapists, and video editors, and the support of the Central Florida Community Arts staff. This one-of-a-kind program exists due to the passion and drive brought by its founder, Kaileigh Anne Tayek, and this collaboration of individuals working in tandem to achieve something bigger than themselves. Likewise, nothing would be possible without the support of our performers’ parents and caregivers!

Thank you for your presence and your support of our amazing UpBeat! members. I am thrilled for these performers to have the opportunity to share their hard work. I know they will impress you and inspire you, just as they captivate the team and myself on a weekly basis. We hope you enjoy An UpBeat! Spooktacular and that you will join us for more UpBeat! shows in the future!

Sincerely,
William Tayek
UpBeat! Associate Artistic Director
