Hello and Welcome!
Thank you so much for joining us for Hand-Drawn Jazz 2! It is an honor to have you here, and we are thrilled that you chose to make live music, art, jazz, and community a part of your weekend.
The CFCArts Big Band that you’ll hear today is really an astonishing group of musicians. Over 70 volunteers – your friends and neighbors, teachers, doctors, parents, students, and more – who gather together once a week to have some fun, play some great music, and make our community just a little more vibrant and connected. The talent in this region is incredible, and this band is a perfect demonstration of why we love calling Central Florida “home.”
The concert you’re about to experience is one of our favorites. This is a joyous exploration of the relationship between music and animation. More specifically, the historically significant connection between jazz and the characters, stories, artists, and art that have made animation such an enduring part of our culture. We hope you’ll be entertained – and amazed – as you hear some of this music in entirely new ways and as you experience first-hand how the fluid, rhythmic, and improvisational nature of jazz pairs so seamlessly with the process of drawing a character into existence.
Bringing that concept vibrantly to life right before your eyes today will be our good friend, Jason Zucker. An accomplished artist and animator, Jason is also a master storyteller, engaging performer, and dynamic collaborator. It is so much fun for our musicians to get to perform with him, and we know that you’ll be enthralled by his talent and the effortless way he draws many of these characters for you today.
After experiencing the talent, enthusiasm, creativity, and community on stage with us today, we know you’ll want to see more! We’d love to have you join us for any of our upcoming productions, across all of our dynamic programs. Whether you’re a musical theatre fan who would love to see talented youth in our production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat next week, a lover of great music and great spectacle who wants to help us ring in our 15th anniversary with the largest choir in the country this November at Dreaming Together, or a passionate music fan who can’t wait to hear 400 musicians ring in the holidays at Celebrate the Season, we really do have something for everyone.
You can get all of the details on our website at CFCArts.com/Events.
Thank you again for joining us today! Enjoy the show, and we can’t wait to see you again soon!
