Students in grades 7 through 12 this school year: Join us for our Troupe Spring 2026 Musical: Hadestown: Teen Edition! This show will be our first-ever youth theatre show accompanied by a full live band, and we will perform at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in the beautiful Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater.
This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, this beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.
Students must audition for this pre-professional advanced theatre group.
Important Dates & Times
How to Prepare for Auditions (Required - Please Read!)
- Fill out your student’s Registration Form.
- Headshots and resumes are encouraged (but not required) and can be emailed to theatre@cfcarts.com at least 48 hours prior to your audition in PDF, JPG, or PNG format. If emailed late or in a different format, we may not be able to access your resume. Please do not bring hard copies to your audition.
- Prepare and memorize two 16 to 32-bar selections: one from a musical theatre song in the style of the show, and one from a jazz or folk music selection in the style of the show. Please do not sing selections from any version of Hadestown. Please bring sheet music with full piano accompaniment, three-hole-punched, double-sided, and in a three-ring binder (please do not put music in page protectors.) An accompanist will be provided. Tracks may not be used. Students may not sing a cappella (without accompaniment.) If you need assistance locating appropriate sheet music, please contact us at theatre@cfcarts.com at least 48 hours before your audition (but preferably sooner!) and we will help you.
- If you play an instrument, please bring your instrument and be prepared to demonstrate as we may or may not be able to incorporate some actor-musicians. Please note that the actor playing Orpheus will be asked to learn and play guitar for the following songs: Epic 1, 2, and 3, and some or all of Livin' it Up On Top and They Danced. Prior guitar knowledge is a plus, even if self-taught.
- Students do not need to memorize any part of the script or prepare a monologue, but the script will be provided in advance as well as character descriptions and more resources. There will be no cold readings for those only auditioning for Hadestown as this show is sung-through with very little speaking.
- Please bring a water bottle. Food and gum is not permitted.
- Dance or athletic shoes required. No restrictive attire, open-toed shoes, flip-flops/sandals, heels, or skirts/dresses without leggings or shorts beneath.
- Auditions, as well as rehearsals, are closed to parents and other visitors. For safety reasons, only students and approved staff/volunteers are permitted.
- Students may choose to attend our Audition Prep Workshop on Wednesday, January 14, 5:30-7:30 PM at our audition and rehearsal location of First Congregational Church of Winter Park (225 S Interlachen Ave, Winter Park FL 32789.). Students will gain familiarity with the shows and characters, have the opportunity to participate in a mock partial audition and receive feedback, and participate in a Q&A session with casting staff. You can register your student for the Audition Prep Workshop on their Registration Form and use the links below to pay. We offer a sibling discount for this workshop! Payment links will be made available closer to the auditions.
- Coming up Wednesday, December 3 at 6 PM, we will be holding a brief virtual Q&A with leadership about spring shows including Hadestown, and we will also take questions about our summer camps and summer shows! We highly recommend that any parents of students auditioning for Hadestown, or students themselves, attend. No need to turn on your camera; you can just type in your questions if desired or just watch. You can also submit questions in advance to be answered during the session, anonymously or not. HERE is the Google Meet link. Click here to submit questions in advance (anonymously or not.)

Tuition
There is a seasonal $35 registration fee per student, which covers all enrollments in Youth Theatre Programs from January through May 2025. Registration Fees are now a part of the overall tuition cost! If your student participates in more than one production with us in a season, you will be sent a special coupon code that will subtract the $35 registration fee from your student’s tuition payment - it’s a “thank you” from us!
Tuition for all performers is $335 (scholarships and payment plans available; see below.)
There are four ways to cover tuition:
- Complete the tuition payment in full via the payment form. Troupe will receive an email with instructions following auditions for those selected - payment may not be made in advance. You may also bring cash or a check (made out to CFCArts) to your student’s rehearsal (please email theatre@cfcarts.com to confirm that you will be bringing payment in person.) Payment is due no later than Monday, January 26.
- Reach out to theatre@cfcarts.com to set up a tuition payment plan of three installments. The first installment will be due no later than Monday, January 26, the second installment no later than Monday, February 23, and the third and final installment Monday, April 13, two weeks prior to the beginning of tech week. Students must have tuition paid in full to perform in the production. Installment payments may be made via the payment form or by bringing cash or a check (made out to CFCArts) to your student’s rehearsal (please email theatre@cfcarts.com to confirm that you will be bringing payment in person.)
- Complete the Financial Assistance Application as a part of your student’s Registration Form to be considered for a need-based scholarship for this program. Any remaining balance for your student’s tuition will be due no later than Monday, April 13. Students must have their remaining tuition balance paid in full to perform in the production. Payment of the remaining balance may be made via the payment form or by bringing cash or a check (made out to CFCArts) to your student’s rehearsal (please email theatre@cfcarts.com to confirm that you will be bringing payment in person.)

Service Project
Central Florida Community Arts exists to serve and build community through the arts. With our mission in mind, our Youth Theatre Program students for each production have the opportunity to participate in a service project to benefit another non-profit organization in Central Florida - and to build friendships and bond with their castmates! These service projects are carefully selected to align with the message of the story that our students are telling on stage.
For this production, representatives from our cast will be working with the organization Harvest Time International. Like Orpheus and Eurydice, many in our community experience hardships due to poverty, natural disasters, and more. Harvest Time distributes much needed supplies in times of disaster and supports our community by providing food, clothing, and household essentials. Representatives from our cast will visit Harvest Time on Saturday, February 21, from 10 AM-12 PM to volunteer sorting and readying supplies for families in need! With "times being what they are, hard and getting harder all the time", we know that helping our neighbors in need is essential to being a part of the Central Florida community.
