100 Years After Ragtime

A Conversation About the Evolution of Policing A pivotal scene in the musical Ragtime involves a presidential candidate’s visit. During the visit when one character attempts to get the politician’s attention, she’s accused of having a gun and is beaten. This raises the question of race and policing – where are we 100 years after Ragtime? On the anniversary of the death of George Floyd join local leaders to discuss the evolution of policing, where we are today and how our local police agencies have responded to changing trends. A Cabaret Featuring Brandon Martin Vocalist Brandon Martin, accompanied by pianist Kevin Wu, celebrates and commemorates the Black American Experience. Through the words and music of Black artists and societal change-makers, the program takes us through the timeline of the struggle for justice for Black Americans. Featuring selections by Nina Simone, Sam Cooke, Billie Holiday, John Legend, Alicia Keys, and more. The documentary tells the history of the teams, the outcome of the game, and the reunion of the teams decades later. CFCArts’ UpBeat! Theatre Troupe is a performance group for youth and young adult exceptional learners. UpBeat! produces multiple performances each year, including both plays and musicals. UpBeat! is open to actors with a variety of exceptionalities, including but not limited to autism, Down syndrome, and ADHD. This season, UpBeat! is proud to present, The Greatest Show! This musical theater style revue will feature performers of all ages and abilities presenting excerpts from some of the biggest movie musical hits of the past 15 years. From High School Musical to the Greatest Showman, this mixed media showcase will offer all students a chance to shine through singing, dancing, and acting in short films and live performances!

Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids

The jungle is jumpin’ with a jazzy beat in Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS, presented by the CFCArts Children & Youth Arts Programs. Specially adapted from the classic Disney animated film, Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS features a host of colorful characters and your favorite songs from the movie. Banished by the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, a human boy named Mowgli and his panther friend, Bagheera, are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle. Disney’s The Jungle Book KIDS has a large, expandable ensemble and many strong, featured roles for good singers.
