Executive Director, Central Florida Community Arts
Central Florida Community Arts (CFCArts) is seeking an Executive Director, who reports to the Board of Directors and provides exemplary leadership that fosters the overall success of the organization by furthering CFCArts’ purpose of building community through the arts and ensuring sustainability through fiscal responsibility.
Who We Are
Central Florida Community Arts is a multigenerational, multidisciplinary, performing arts organization. We are committed to providing opportunities for people at every stage of their lives to connect, serve, and perform on stages across our community. CFCArts boasts the largest community choir and symphony orchestra in the country, robust youth theatre programs, a big band, an acting troupe for children and adults with Down Syndrome and other neurodiversities, and an acting troupe for aging seniors. The people we serve are as diverse as our growing community and find joy in discovering or refining their inner artist.
Overall Summary
The Executive Director sets a clear direction for the organization and ensures that marketing and development staff, funding, and community support are in place to achieve its strategic goals. While remaining focused on CFCArts’ mission, the Executive Director will effectively make data-driven decisions but remain flexible as situations arise. This people-oriented leader values diversity and supports and empowers CFCArts’ team members in an environment that is collaborative, equitable, and inclusive. The Executive Director engages the community through strong and effective relationships with external stakeholders.
Areas of Responsibility
- Vision for the Mission & Purpose of the Organization
- Ensure that CFCArts vision, mission, and purpose is fulfilled in all decision-making, operations, programming, and services
- Preserve and advance a shared vision of the organization and its role in the Central Florida community among all constituencies
- Create and incorporate appropriate measurements in order to quantify community impact of CFCArts programs and services in accordance with its mission as well as progress toward its goals
- Work with staff, volunteer leaders, donors, and community leaders to develop and achieve short and long-term goals for organizational growth
- Exemplify behaviors consistent with CFCArts’ core values and guiding principles
- Inspire all organizational stakeholders through the mission and purpose to foster participation, patronage, and financial support
- Employ critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and empathy while leading and empowering staff through
important decisions based on data and the values of CFCArts
- Provide Strategic Leadership for the Organization
- In conjunction with the Managing Director, provide strong, innovative, and collaborative leadership for the organization developing operational and financial resources
- In conjunction with the Managing Director, maintain accountability for the overall operational and fiscal integrity of the organization operating within the policies set by the Board of Directors
- In conjunction with the Managing Director, provide leadership in developing the financial resources necessary to sustain the organization’s mission
- Develop creative strategies and plans for achieving financial goals and assure appropriate staffing of the fundraising structure.
- Ensure the organization’s financial health and stability are protected through proper and ethical management through responsible fiscal planning, budgeting systems, and practices
- Oversee marketing and public relations initiatives to advance strategic awareness of organization
- Build out 3 year financial plan and budget in partnership with the Managing Director
- Support Managing Director with Artistic Leadership for the Organization
- Acts as a spokesperson for the organization's artistic purpose via speaking engagements, public and social appearances, and, as requested, at fundraising events and solicitations
- Identify and respond to community priorities in arts and their impact on quality of life in Central Florida
- Participate in discussions surrounding creative direction, production planning, and overall implementation of programming and programming teams, to ensure unity across the organization, connection to mission, and alignment with funding opportunities and strategic priorities
- Support program teams regularly at kick-offs, rehearsals, technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, performances, and major production meetings.
- Collaborate in Governance with the Board of Directors
- Provide leadership along with the Board of Directors to develop short and long-term strategic planning and direction aligned with goals of the organization in accordance with its purpose, vision, and mission
- Recognize and understand the differences between roles and duties of the Board and Executive Director
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Board Chair
- Establish financial development goals with the Board of Directors
- Providing adequate information to the Board of Directors in terms of budget, finances, organizational and staff needs, and the Executive Director’s specific needs or issues
- Keep the Board of Directors informed of potential problems or issues that may befall the organization
- Collaborate with the Board Chair on the recruitment and development of a strong and diverse Board of Directors representative of the Central Florida community we serve including race, gender, religion, lifestyle, geography, industry, and relevant public/private sectors.
- Serve as a staff liaison with Board of Directors Committees: Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Development Committee, People & Culture Committee
- Leadership of fundraising and development functions
- Develop, implement, and oversee yearly fund development strategies, goals, and objectives that align with the organization’s budget
- Oversees staff, contractors, and lead volunteers (e.g. Board Members) in meeting development goals
- Cultivate and steward strategic relationships for philanthropic, corporate, and individual giving as well as enhancing existing ongoing and establishing new ongoing partnerships and retention
- Oversee and provide regular updates of the planning and execution of development events
- Oversee and provide regular updates of the grant pursuit strategies and execution
- Lead the establishment and stewardship of sponsorship efforts
- Support Managing Director in Daily Operations
- Secure facilities/space management both for staff and programming
- Ensure proper fulfillment of accounting, payroll, and cash flow management systems
- Ensure regular evaluation of all staff members and equitable improvement plans
- Ensure appropriate and proper personnel policies and staffing systems
- Marketing and development staff and contractor hiring
- Ensure appropriate use of technology as well as short and long term needs
- Ensure compliance with all legal requirements (lease agreements, etc.) and any regulatory needs
- Serve as Leader to Marketing & Development Staff
- Serve as the direct leader for marketing and development staff and contractors that directly work with marketing, branding, donor stewardship, grant managements, sponsorship management, etc.
- Lead regular meetings with direct reports to ensure that the health of all programs is on track, concerns are addressed swiftly, and all budgets are accurately adhered to
- Collaborate with the Manager of Marketing & Communications to best strategize marketing for the organization and all programs to meet financial targets for each season and the year overall
- Regularly meet with and lead the Manager of Donor & Patron Services to evaluate and guide ticket pricing, sales, and trends as well as donor recruitment, events, and stewardship
- Ensure regular evaluation of Marketing and Development staff members and equitable improvement plans
- Develop & Steward Relationships with Community & Arts Organizations
- Maintain a leadership role among the organization’s constituencies: members, donors, patrons, government, and community
- Play a key role as a collaborative partner with other organizations to advance the arts and the role of the organization in Central Florida
- Maintain strong relationships with community decision makers in all sectors (private and public) to advance the interests of the organization and the arts in building community.
- Participate in local, state, and national legislative activities and with constituencies impacting CFCArts and Central Florida
- Partner with other arts leaders on legislative advocacy initiatives impacting the arts in Central Florida
- Provide strategic leadership for establishment and cultivation of venue partnerships

Time Commitments & Work Location
This role is a salaried, exempt position. The working week for this position may include instances of weekends and evenings, communicated in advance.
In-Person presence and leadership is expected at all key meetings and events both in the office and for each program.
Other Key Details
Compensation: Salary range: $90,000-$100,000

Youth Theatre Program Staff and Intern Openings
The CFCArts Youth Theatre Program is hiring interns and technicians for immediate openings and opportunities, and will be hiring program staff including Teaching Artists, Stage Managers, Choreographers, Music Directors, and more!

Youth Theatre Jr. Companies
A beginner theatre program for students in grades Pre-K through 2. The Jr. Companies perform three to four times a year, alongside the Jr. Troupe and Companies, featured in pre-show performances and in small roles within the larger production. Teaching Artists and Assistants are needed for this program. Stipends range from $125 to $500 per production depending on role, responsibilities, and length of program.
Youth Theatre Companies
Youth Theatre Jr. Troupe
An advanced, auditioned theatre program for students in grades 3 through 12. The Jr. Troupe perform three to four times a year, alongside the Companies and Jr. Companies, as the lead and supporting roles within our productions. Directors, Stage Managers, Music Directors, Choreographers, and more are needed for this program. Stipends range from $200 to over $1,000 per production depending on role, responsibilities, and length of program.
Youth Theatre Troupe
A pre-professional, auditioned theatre program for students in grades 3 through 12, or grades 6 through 12, depending on the current production. The Troupe performs three to four times a year in full-scale musicals and plays. Directors, Stage Managers, Music Directors, Choreographers, and more are needed for this program. Stipends range from $250 to $1,000 per production depending on role, responsibilities, and length of program.

CFCArts Youth Programs are open to interested high school, college, and early career young professionals for unpaid internships and volunteer positions.
