Young Artists Orchestra

Our History

Students entering Grades 6 through 12 this school year: Join the CFCArts Young Artists Orchestra for Spring 2021! The Young Artists Orchestra welcomes all young musicians in strings, brass, woodwinds, and percussion with at least one year of experience on their instrument. This season, we are offering both virtual and in-person rehearsals.

The YAO will learn challenging musical repertoire and perform in a concert for family and friends, and possibly events for charity organizations in Central Florida as well.

The YAO are auditioned for placement only, but there is a place for everyone! We are currently accepting late enrollments; please send in audition materials ASAP.

CFCArts is a Gardiner Scholarship provider, and the Gardiner Scholarship can be used to cover program tuition! CFCArts scholarships are also available.

Please note the following requirements to register:

  • Minimum of one year of experience on chosen instrument.
  • Must possess basic to advanced music reading skills.
  • Must own or rent an instrument to play.

About the Director

Ethan is an Alabama native and holds his Master’s of Music Education degree with a conducting emphasis from Auburn University. His love for the performing arts began with piano instruction in second grade. He has led music ensembles as a collegiate and drum corps drum major, youth orchestra conductor, and music director for children’s theatre. In 2015, he founded Drum Major Innovations, an educational institution that offers conducting clinics, camps, and competitions for aspiring drum majors. He currently serves as an instructor for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. Ethan has performed with Disney Cruise Line, The Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort.

Nathan Humphries started playing piano and singing when he was 7 years old. Since then his primary instrument has been the euphonium.  He received his bachelor’s degree in music education from Auburn University. In college he was selected as a featured soloist for the Auburn University Symphonic Winds, as well as a member of the National Intercollegiate Band (2013). Since then he has been an active music teacher in both Orange and Osceola counties. He is also an active cast member with Disney Performing Arts, and has been working events such as Festival Disney and Epcot’s Candlelight Processional since 2014. In Central Florida, he has performed with groups such as the Brass Band of Central Florida as well as the Orlando Concert Band. He is very excited to be a part of the CFCArts team!

January-February

Rehearsals will take place on Sundays from 3-5 PM between January 24 and February 28 on a weekly basis at Calvary Orlando (1199 Clay St., Winter Park.) Families will specify if they prefer a live or virtual (via Zoom) experience for their student on the Audition Form.

For families who choose a live experience, rehearsals will take place on the campus of Calvary Orlando (1199 Clay Street, Winter Park, FL 32789) in the Gym/Family Life Center (Building 3, see map) following the safety procedures linked here.
For families who choose a virtual experience, each live rehearsal will be broadcast on Zoom for your student to follow along at home.

March-May

Rehearsals will take place on Sundays from 2:30-4:30 PM between March 7 and May 2 on a weekly basis at Cornerstone Charter Academy (5903 Randolph Ave, Belle Isle). There will be no rehearsals on Sunday, March 14 due to Spring Break and Sunday, April 4 due to Easter. There will be rehearsals on Sunday, March 21.

For families who choose a live experience, rehearsals will take place on the campus of Cornerstone Charter Academy (5903 Randolph Ave, Belle Isle, FL 32809) following the safety procedures linked here.
For families who choose a virtual experience, each live rehearsal will be broadcast on Zoom for your student to follow along at home.

The concert will take place on Sunday, May 9 at 3 PM at Cornerstone Charter Academy Auditorium (5903 Randolph Ave, Belle Isle, FL 32809) following the safety procedures linked here.

The concert will have a limited number of seats available, but will also be recorded. Click here to visit the event page and to purchase tickets.

Tuition for all performers, in-person or virtual, is $175. Scholarships and payment plans are available (see below.)

There are four ways to cover tuition:

  • Complete the tuition payment of $175 in full via PayPal, or by mailing a check (made out to CFCArts) to PO Box 720517 Orlando, FL 32872 (please email youth@cfcarts.com once check is posted.)
  • Complete a partial tuition payment of at least $50 via PayPal, or by mailing a check (made out to CFCArts) to PO Box 720517 Orlando, FL 32872 (please email youth@cfcarts.com once check is posted.) The remaining balance may be paid either in monthly installments or in a second payment prior to the concert. Email youth@cfcarts.com to set up your payment plan.
  • To use a Gardiner Scholarship, please email Leah@cfcarts.com with your student’s ID number. Please note if your Gardiner Scholarship is through AAA or Step Up for Students (SUFS.)
  • Complete the Scholarship Application to be considered for a scholarship for this program.

How to prepare:

If your student would like some help preparing for their audition, the CFCArts Academy is here to help with Virtual Private Lessons in audition prep covering instrumental coaching! Lessons can be one-time (called “Flex”) or you can set up recurring lessons if you prefer. Contact Academy@cfcarts.com to register!

How to register:

Please follow these steps to register your student.

  • Please register for an audition by filling out the Audition Form.
  • Students new to CFCArts will need to fill out the CFCArts Membership Application.
  • Please note the following requirements to register:
    • Minimum of one year of experience on chosen instrument.
    • Must possess basic to advanced music reading skills.
    • Must own or rent an instrument to play.

Once your student is registered for a video audition, you may submit their audition materials (see below) and will be sent Spring 2021 paperwork via DocuSign to your email.

How to audition:

Please submit the following items to youth@cfcarts.com. We are currently accepting late enrollments; please send in audition materials ASAP!

  • Video of your student performing two short contrasting excerpts (one fast and one slow.)
  • Video of your student performing a 2-octave scale of the students’ choice for all instruments except bass.
  • PDF or pictures (.JPG/.JPEG, .PNG) of your student’s chosen sheet music for their contrasting excerpts.
  • All Spring 2021 Children and Youth Arts Program forms will be sent to your email via DocuSign after completing the Audition Form.

How to submit:

We are currently accepting late enrollments; please send in audition materials ASAP.

  • Video auditions must be emailed as one or multiple video files (email attachment or Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, iCloud, or a link to a video-hosting website such as YouTube) to youth@cfcarts.com.
  • Paperwork for the Spring 2021 season will be sent and completed virtually via DocuSign. After completing the Audition Form, we will send the paperwork to your email!
