Time to Write.

A Challenge for Playwrights.

In troubling times, Art can be a great comfort to many. For artists, it is also a responsibility. We believe that trying times can and should promote an avalanche of new work, filled with new and varying perspectives and ideas. It’s with this belief in mind that we announce Time to Write: A Challenge for Playwrights in the state of Florida.
Enter for the chance to have your work be part of a virtual reading, a chance to be part of a compilation of new original works, and a chance to have your work featured in a public performance!
How To Enter:
  1. Write a completely original script that’s both started and finished between March 24 and April 24, 2020.
  • Be sure you have the legal right to use any source material.
  • Scripts can be in any language and have no restrictions on content.
  • We are interested in scripts from playwrights in the state of Florida only.
  • Email Scripts in .pdf form to theatre@cfcarts.com by April 24, 2020.
  • Details of the Challenge:
    • We want playwrights from the state of Florida (both experienced and novice) to challenge themselves to complete a new theatrical work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
    • The content is up to the artist: the new piece can be related to our current experience or not.
    • We are looking for full-length scripts, written for the stage. If your piece serves itself best as a one-act, then that’s great. A ten-minute play? Perfect. A 3-hour opera? Good luck. As long as your piece is completed to your desire.
    • Deadline: April 24, 2020.
  • What’s next?
    • Each script will be read by a team of local readers, lead by CFCArts Director of Theatre, Donald Rupe.
    • Feedback for scripts will be provided upon request (you must specify this desire upon submission).
    • A select group of scripts will be chosen for Virtual Play Readings, where local actors will read the script aloud using a virtual platform. Note: if circumstances have improved, we may be able to consider in-person readings, but we will adhere to the recommended guidelines of the CDC and government officials.
    • At least one piece will be chosen to be fully- produced in some fashion by CFCArts.
    • A certain number of scripts will be chosen to appear in a compilation of scripts to commemorate this moment in the lives of Florida playwrights, and we will attempt to get this compilation published as a group.
  • Fine Print
    • All scripts should be completely original and started and finished between the dates of March 24 and April 24.
