Welcome to the inaugural season of the CFCArts Young Artist Orchestra! This is an auditioned orchestra for players under the age of 18.

Have you already auditioned and know in which orchestra you have been placed? Then here is everything you need to know!

Kick Off: Sunday, August 30
Rehearsals: Sundays, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm (no rehearsal on Easter Sunday).
Rehearsal Location: Calvary Orlando, 1199 Clay Street, Winter Park, FL 32789 (all rehearsals are closed to guests. Performers are to be dropped off and picked up in Calvary’s main lobby)
Concerts: Will be at 3:00pm on October 4, November 1, December 6, February 21 and April 10 at Calvary Orlando.

The Young Artists Sinfonia

The Young Artists Sinfonia is a string orchestra for our youngest members. It is structured to allow the young beginner to intermediate level string student an opportunity to participate in a large group ensemble experience. The Sinfonia plays advanced beginner to intermediate repertoire and typically performs six or more concerts each year. The Sinfonia typically includes musicians who can perform level 2 or 3 string books.

The Young Artists Philharmonic

The Young Artists Philharmonic is an intermediate string orchestra, consisting mainly of middle school students with some talented elementary school students and a few high school students. The Philharmonic’s mission is to give students an educationally sound musical experience in a full orchestral setting through exposure to quality musical literature and performance opportunities. Intermediate to advanced orchestral repertoire along with challenging arrangements of great masterpieces are rehearsed and performed throughout the concert season. The Philharmonic Orchestra performs about six concerts each season.

The Young Artists Camerata Chamber Orchestra

The Young Artists Camerata Orchestra is an advanced chamber group performing standard chamber music repertoire. Camerata membership is by invitation and features mostly string instruments. Challenging standard chamber orchestral repertoire is explored and featured in the multi-performance Concert Season.

The Young Artists Symphony Orchestra

The Young Artists Symphony Orchestra is a full orchestra performing challenging orchestral repertoire. Symphony Orchestra is an advanced group of students ranging from age 11 through age 17. Professional guest artists may appear as featured soloists and a fully dimensional orchestral stylistic curriculum includes learning music of the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century. The Symphony is featured in numerous concerts throughout the year.
Dr. Alvaro Gomez

Dr. Alvaro Gomez made his first public appearance at the age of nine with the Chilean Symphony. He received his music degrees from the University of Chile-Santiago, and completed his post graduate studies at the P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow under the tutelage of Galina A. Barinova, Victor Pikaisen, and David Oistrach. He is the first prizewinner of the “Jeunesse Musical” competition of Latin America, and won the “Japan Foundation Prize” in 1982. He was also the recipient of the Fullbright Foundation Award in 1987. Today, Dr. Gomez is recognized as one of the most brilliant violinists that has emerged from the prestigious P.I. Tchaikovsky Conservatory. He has performed as a violin and viola soloist with orchestras and in chamber groups around the world.

Dr. Gomez made his conducting debut in 1975 with the Chilean Philharmonic Orchestra, and was later appointed as Assistant Conductor and Concertmaster of the Chilean National Symphony Orchestra. With his success as a conductor, Dr. Gomez has been a guest conductor with orchestras in China, Europe, North and South America. He has conducted the All-State Orchestra for the Florida Music Educators Association in Tampa, Florida, the Sienna Chamber Orchestra Tour of Italy and Switzerland, Florida International Festival, and the Daytona Beach Civic Orchestra. He has conducted orchestras at the Fairbanks Summer Fine Arts Camp and Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Fairbanks Alaska. Dr Gomez is the Music Director and Conductor of the Winter Park Chamber Music Academy, Orlando, and teaches conducting and viola at the Orfeo International Music Festival held in the Italian Alps.

Dr. Gomez’s 35 years of music experience also include teaching. He currently maintains an active teaching studio in Orlando. He teaches master classes to students all over the world. He has taught at the University of Florida, Rollins College, Daytona Beach College, Stetson University, and Colleges and Universities in Arkansas, Tennessee, and his home country of Chile.

  • Auditions are to determine the student’s current skill level.
  • Auditions will be held at Calvary Orlando, 1199 Clay St, Winter Park, FL 32789 on August 16 and 23 from 2pm to 6pm, and on August 22 from 10am to 6pm (audition slots are going quick and most slots on the 16th and 23rd are already taken – requesting August 22 is strongly recommended).
